Contouring For Beginners

Contouring is not just for your favorite reality TV stars anymore. Yes, you can fully transform your face with this makeup technique, but you can also just pick a couple of your features to subtly highlight or sculpt. It looks intimidating, but once you have the basics down, you may wonder why you didn’t try it sooner (hello, cheekbones!).

WHAT YOU’LL NEED

1. Highlight

  • Highlighter is going to make your features stand out more.
  • Apply your highlighter to the high points of the face (example: forehead, cheekbones, brow bones, bridge of nose, cupid’s bow)

2. Contour

  • Contouring will add definition to your face.
  • Using a color about 2-3 shades darker than your skin tone, apply the contour to the places you want to sculpt out (example: cheeks, forehead, nose, chin)

3. Blend

  • Using a damp beauty blender or sponge, blend in the highlighter.
  • Using a blending brush, blend the contour out and up until the lines appear more subtle.
