There is nothing better than having your kids totally occupied with something you already had in your closet (for those of you who don’t have some basic legos, you’re welcome)… all while learning something! Here are three Lego learning activities that incorporate STEM…sweet spot age 3/4/5+.
1. Marble Maze
- Lego plates (great for building in general too)
- Legos & Marbles
This one is SO GOOD and requires zero set up. Kids engineer and plan a path for the marbles, build it, and then inevitably troubleshoot when the balls roll off course.
2. Lego Ziplines
- Legos & Party ribbon
Kids start by building little trams for their lego people making sure there is a rounded arch on the top to go on the zipline (which for us was party ribbon attached to removable command hooks.) Try raising and lowering your zip line and adding weight to the tram to explore what variables impact the velocity!
3. Balloon Cars
- Legos & Balloons
The force of the air coming out of the balloon propels the car forward (or just makes your kid laugh inappropriately at the noise 😉 ) To avoid the frustration of the lego car breaking, hot glue or tape it together or put the balloon through after it’s already blown up. Otherwise, this is super neat/ highly entertaining. Have fun!! Just try not to step on any of the legos…
