If you’re a little confused trying to figure out who that guy is sitting on the couch reading a book, let us help you out. It’s your husband. You know, the guy from your wedding? The one you used to see movies with?
Hopefully, we’re jogging your memory here.
Even though it may be the last thing on your mind, try to carve out some time to reconnect with your partner by setting up a date night. Just leaving the house for a short time together can be so darn life-affirming – even if for just a couple hours. Have some grownup conversation, a grownup beverage, and enjoy feeling like an actual human being in the world. Now’s a good time to do it, too, because baby has a more consistent, early-ish bedtime and may be sleeping a longer stretch in the evenings. Plus, your boobs have mellowed some – the undignified leaking days are likely behind you.
As for the elephant in the room… let’s talk about sex. Your doc may have given you the green light, but if you keep that secret from your husband, no judgment here. Many women are tentative to get back in the saddle after childbirth, for all kinds of reasons. And returning to intimacy can be an adjustment for men, too. Just be kind to yourself and to each other, and be patient. It can take time and that is so OK.
Oh, and while we’re on the subject, it is possible to get pregnant while nursing – despite a common misconception. So. Talk to your doc about birth control options.
But for now, just sit face to face and talk to your partner. For this date, that’s all that’s required.
