No cosmetology degree (or leaving the house) required! Gather up the right supplies, follow this easy tutorial, and you’ll be a pro in no time. You’ve got this!
1. Sides
Use clippers with guides because they prevent you from being able to mess up. Start with their sides (I used a 3 – they’re all in ⅛”, so a 3 is 3/8 ; usually on the top you’ll use a 5 or a 6). Go up the sides just up to where the head starts to curve around and you want to go against the direction of the hair.
2. Top
For the top switch to a 5; start at the front and work your way back. If the hair is growing in all different directions, just go against the hair.
3. Blending
Switch to a 4, and go back in to blend between the top and the sides.
4. Neck & Ears
Now go back to the sides and the back of the hair. Comb the hair over their ears and use a small tool to shave. Follow the curve of the ear. This helps create a nice, straight line. Use the comb to comb the hair down.
Ta-da! Add a little gel to give it a more stylish look!
